Winlink

Global Radio Email

Winlink is a global messaging system using a combination of software and radio equipment to send email.  This can be accomplished on VHF (typically 2m) as well as HF.  Many hams in Cache Valley have established Winlink as a backup communication method.  It is used in some of the activities that BARC provides support for.  Additionally, ARES members are encouraged to train with this communications tool for emergency communications purposes.  More information can be found at the official Winlink website.

Email to SMS message

Using Email to SMS is a pretty simple way to contact people via Winlink. At least for AT&T it works both ways.  By simply sending an email to 1112223333@txt.att.net for example, you can send text messages to cell phones via email.

  • AT&T– cellnumber@txt.att.net  or  cellnumber@mms.att.net
  • Verizon– cellnumber@vtext.com  or cellnumber@vzwpix.com  or cellnumber@mms.vtext.com
  • T-Mobile– cellnumber@tmomail.net
  • Sprint PCS– cellnumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com
  • Virgin Mobile –cellnumber@vmobl.com
  • US Cellular– cellnumber@email.uscc.net
  • Nextel– cellnumber@messaging.nextel.com
  • Boost– cellnumber@myboostmobile.com
  • Alltel– cellnumber@message.alltel.com
